Fairy Tale Illustrations for Wolfgang Hacklander

Hacklander

This illustration for Wolfgang Hacklander's "Castle Silence" & the following three plates are selected from Hacklander's collection entitled Marchen (Leipzig: J. M. Gebhardt's Verlag; my copy is not dated but approximately 1870).

Illustration for Hacklander

An illustration for "The Dwarf's Nest." Alas C. Ossterdinger's illustrations from the German edition were never used in the English language translation of Hacklander's collection, Enchanting & Enchanted (Philadelphia: Lippincott, 1871).

Hacklander

An illustration for "The Fairy Tankard." Wolfgang Hacklander was born 1816 & died 1877, a bit late to be of the Romanticist generation of Hoffmann, but a latter-day Romanticist nonetheless.

Hacklander

An especially elegant illustration for "The Princess Morgana" a fairy tale in the Arabian Nights vein also reminiscent of Wilhelm Hauf.
